Organisational Capabilities

Both Kamini and Verena have been instrumental in the revival of the art of storytelling in Singapore through the consistent public performances organized by MoonShadow Stories. As founder members of the Storytelling Association (Singapore) and consultants for the Singapore International Storytelling Festival, they have many years of combined experience in planning and executing storytelling performances, workshops and events that cater to all levels of audiences. MoonShadow Stories’ international links with storytellers around the world has facilitated overseas travel and storytelling exchanges. Their work in mentoring and nurturing local storytellers translates into providing a group or team of storytellers for specific large scale events.

Storytelling Association (Singapore)

Kamini and Verena are founder members of the Storytelling Association (Singapore). Kamini was protem Secretary (2006) and Secretary (2007) before becoming President for four years from 2008 – 2012. Verena was Committee Member (2006), Webmistress (2007 – 2008) and Committee Member (2011). In their respective roles in the Association, they have been responsible for organizing a variety of storytelling performances, workshops and collaborations. Their combined scope of work encompasses planning and executing the Association’s Social/Story Swaps, Story Weavers performances, family audience public events and international exchange programmes.

The Beyond Storytelling 101 intermediate level workshops facilitated by Verena resulted in Association members being trained specifically for public storytelling performances. The various BS101 Graduate Shows and BS 101 Alumni Shows from 2008 – 2010 were solely organized by MoonShadow Stories.

Recently (2011 & 2012) she has been responsible for advising on the overall programming of the Festival. Kamini also provides storytelling content for the Festival. On behalf of the SAS, she was involved in the selection of the Master Class facilitators and organized these advance level workshops from 2006-2010. AREAS COVERED:

A highly participative course that involves all participants in storytelling exercises, activites and practice opportunities in telling to a live audience. Individual feedback and listener's observation are core elements of this course. Participants will be exposed to a variety of ways of performing their story and encouraged to find their own individual style as a storyteller. Memorization of text is discouraged and internalization of the story is encouraged. Only stories from the oral tradition will be used during this course (legends, myths, epics, folktales, fables, fairy tales and traditional oral narrative stories).
