Explorers, adventurers, bravehearts! Come and be regaled by the tale of the mighty Raja Suran's expedition as he marched an army of men and beasts in search of an elusive land. Listen to the story of the slave boy Badang whose immense strength brought him royal fame.

Our island's oral tradition is a treasure trove of legends that inspire courage and evoke a sense of pride.

In Stories from our Shores, students will discover the tales of Badang and Raja Suran through storytelling, percussive instruments and vibrant illustrations that will set their imaginations in motion. Behold the richness of our cultural heritage and immerse yourself in the legends of Singapura.

This performance is directed by Kamini Ramachandran.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop an awareness of and appreciation for oral narrative tradition
  • Gain exposure to stories and legends that are part of the cultural stories of Singapore
  • Identify different percussion instruments and apply rhythm patterns using body percussion

About Feed Your Imagination (F.Y.I)

Feed Your Imagination (F.Y.I) offers primary and secondary school students a series of music, dance and drama performances by established local arts groups. It aims to educate by imparting knowledge about the arts, provoking thought and encouraging audience participation. Each F.Y.I performance includes a tour around Esplanade, resource kit for teachers to use before and after the performance and an activity kit for each student.

F.Y.I is held as part of the National Arts Council Arts Education Programme (NAC-AEP) that aims to develop initiatives that advocate the value and importance of arts education.
