Telling Stories To Young Children

A Storytelling Workshop for Mothers with Young Children

A 3 hour workshop focusing on storytelling skills especially for a young audience

Date: 1 Apr 2012
Time:

2.00pm - 5.00pm

Kamini was approached by an online support group of young mothers with very young children who wanted to learn the basics of storytelling to a young audience. The session focused on making stories simple and accessible to small children. Participants were taken through a wide range of suitable and age appropriate props such as cloth masks, animal puppets, felt finger puppets and kamishibai story boards. The workshop also encouraged the use of ethnic languages to impart bi-lingual language skills to the child. Traditional language-based sound effects, phrases and dialogue were demonstrated through group work, exploration and sharing. The workshop was highly participative with mothers telling to each other.
