Set in contemporary Indonesia, ‘The Queen’ by Intan Paramaditha introduces readers to the Javanese mythology of Kanjeng Ratu Kidul, or Queen of the South Sea.

Master storyteller Kamini Ramachadran brings the short story to life with an oral retelling in this digital performance presented by Singapore Book Council, for the Singapore Writers Festival 2021.

Meet powerful Southeast Asian female mythological characters and connect with nature in all her forms – water bodies, spirits, goddesses, queens, wives, and more.

‘The Queen’ is an adaptation of a short story from Intan Paramaditha’s collection Apple and Knife.
