Kamini Ramachandran will share stories from her Asian repertoire at this international storytelling festival held in Rome, Italy.

Tribal tales: sharing from a storyteller / Storie tribali:l’eperienza di una storyteller
Kamini will share her experiences in collecting the tribal folktales from the aboriginal and indigenous people in the jungles of Malaysia and also similar experiences in collecting tribal stories from the Khasi tribe in Shillong, East India; and also from village women in Thanjavur in South India. She will speak about the process of gaining trust from the tribal community, the whole experience of living with a tribe and adapting to their ways, and the shamans and how they tell their stories. And as a storyteller, what is our motive in collecting these tales? What is the end result or 'product 'of this research? Must it always result in a book? Or can we choose to share these tribal stories orally instead? The challenges of keeping these old and ancient tribal tales alive in contemporary society. In this session you will hear some of the rare and unheard tribal stories that were given to Kamini.
Kamini condividerà la sua esperienza nel raccogliere le storie tribali dalle persone aborigene e indigene delle jungla della Malesia e altresì la sua esperienza nel raccogliere storie tribali dalla tribù Kashi dello Shillong nell’est dell’India, come pure dalle donne dei paesi del Thanjavur nel sud dell’ India. Kamini parlerà del processo per ottenere la fiducia della comunità tribale e dell’esperienza di vivere con una tribù, adattandosi alle sue usanze, agli sciamani e al loro modo di raccontare storie. E come storytellers qual’è la nostra motivaxzione nel raccogliere queste storie? Qual’è il fine, il risultato o il “prodotto” di questa ricerca? Deve risultare sempre in un libro? Oppure possiamo scelgiere di continuare a condividere queste storie in modo orale? Qual’è la sfida di mantenere vive queste antiche storie tribali nella società contemporanea? All’interno di questa sessione avrete la possibilità di sentire alcune delle storie rare e fino ad ora mai sentite che sono state afidate a Kamini.
